Editor’s Note: This Advent devotional and 4-part video series is brought to you by KIDStory. You can learn more about them here.
Advent simply means “COMING” in Latin. The season of Advent is celebrated on the four Sundays leading up to Christmas Day. It prepares our hearts to celebrate the coming of Jesus … the birth of the Christ.
In “What Child Is This?” we explore why Jesus’ coming mattered to the entire world and talk about why His coming matters to us as individuals … and even what it means for His return!
Over the years families and churches have followed various traditions to make the season of Advent meaningful—creating a wreath, opening a daily calendar, or lighting candles each week.
If your family wants to add in some physical tradition to our exploration of Advent, you can go online and find all sorts of different traditions that may be a great fit for your family and church families.
For this devotional, you will light a candle each week. Lighting candles usually signifies that something important is about to happen. In order to build anticipation of what is about to happen, your family will light a new candle each week, as the previous weeks’ are lit as well.
If you choose to use something different for your family, or skip this element, simply adjust as appropriate! No matter how you go about it, memories will be made, and Christmas will become more meaningful.
