The Advent and Christmas season is a key time to teach children what it means to wait for Jesus. We see in Scripture that people waited for His arrival, and we have the joy and honor to wait for His return.
So, what does it look like to wait well? How can we celebrate and honor God as we wait?
While Christmas is a time with family and friends, when we celebrate together with yummy food and gift giving, it has a much bigger and better purpose. We all know this, but sometimes we get lost in the rush of the season. Between work, obligations, last-minute parties, puddings, and gifts, we sometimes lose our sense of waiting. Unintentionally, we get to the big day and crawl house to house to appease everyone. Then we blink, and the season’s over.
But what if we paused, simplified, and prioritized at Christmas? It’s an important time in the year where we get to celebrate our God incarnate, Jesus. Less hustle, more Him.
Teaching children to wait well is a gift that will serve them as they grow in body and in faith. Starting traditions young sticks with a person, so let’s take time this season to wait well in celebration of Jesus’ earthly arrival and in anticipation of His soon return.

5-Lesson Christmas Series + Family Advent Event for $49.50
Christmas Series Overview
Our kids will have many opportunities throughout their faith journeys to explore the nativity story and celebrate the birth of our baby King. But perhaps just as compelling as the day itself is the long-expected nature of Messiah’s birth. God had promised a King. The prophets foretold His story.
The weeks leading up to Christmas Day can be a time of vibrant anticipation, of knowing that something worth waiting for is coming, and yet having to wait it out.
In this series, kids will celebrate Advent in a new way as they discover the prophecies about the coming Savior from Isaiah in the Old Testament and the fulfillment of those prophecies in the birth of Jesus and the promise of His return.
The Waiting for Jesus Series features these five lessons:
- Jesus is our HOPE | Isaiah 7; Matthew 1
- Jesus is our PEACE | Isaiah 9; John 14
- Jesus is our JOY | Isaiah 35; Luke 2
- God LOVED us by sending Jesus | Isaiah 11; John 1
- Jesus will return—THE SECOND ADVENT | John 14; 1 Thessalonians 4
The weeks leading up to Christmas Day can be a time of vibrant anticipation.
Advent Family Experience
The Waiting for Jesus Experience is an event where kids can experience the anticipation of waiting on the birth of Jesus and the excitement of waiting for His return.
This experience will take kids on a journey from the prophecies of Isaiah hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus to the New Testament story of Christ’s birth and will point them to the promise of His return. It’s packed with Christmas fun, including a large group experience and activity stations.
The event can be used on the first day of Advent to kick off the Waiting for Jesus series and be an opportunity to send home the Family Clue Cards. You can also use the event during Advent as a stand-alone event.
